Adam

Adam made it back to the house. He closed the door behind him and leaned against it. How had his life turned out this way? He blamed everyone for everything, but how much of this was his own doing?

I did not force the hand that changed me.

I did go the island though, which is on me.

I did not take things with Sophie to the next level, which again, is on me.

Amelia created the cure that kicked off the series of events that led him to the present. Could any of this had been averted? Possibly. Some of the best intentions come with the greatest of consequences. A part of him wanted to go back in time and prevent his pack from getting involved. He shook his head. That’s a pussy way out, he scolded himself.

He walked into the main living room when he heard noises upstairs. He glanced to the ceiling and hoped it may be Elena.

Maybe she’s here, he thought. He took the stairs two at a time, jogged down the hall, and stopped in front of her door. Should he knock? Announce himself? Walk in unannounced? He raised his hand, lowered it, raised it again.

“For fuck’s sake.”

Adam turned to Thomas who came walking down the hall. He reached past Adam and rapped on the door. “Darling, please open up. Someone is here to see you.”

Adam’s mouth hung open. “You did not have to do that.”

“Well, you looked like an idiot deciding on what to do, so I took the decision making away from you.” Thomas leaned in. “From what I understand, your idea of commitment is way off.”

Adam snarled. “Fuck off.”

Thomas’ brows shot up. “I’ll forgive that this one time. Do it again, your neck will be on the floor while your body hangs from the tree.” Thomas smiled then left the hallway.

“I did not ask you to take me in or give me a pity party.” Adam snarled. He stepped away from Thomas and shook his head.

“You blame everyone but yourself, Adam. Consider that for a moment. No, I did not have to take you in, but I did because what happened to you was unfair. It was unnatural and should never have occurred. However, here we are.”

Adam’s gaze lowered to the floor, as well as his self-respect. As soon as Thomas disappeared at the bottom of the stairs, Adam turned back to Elena’s door, and flinched.

She stood in the doorway and leaned against the frame. Her hair was pulled to the nape of her neck and she wore a set of goggles on her head. With her pale skin, blond hair, and lips painted a luscious red, Elena was breathtaking.

“How much of that did you hear?”

“Plenty,” she answered.

He nodded. “Please Elena, may I come in?”

She perked a brow. “No.”

His brows rose. “What?”

“I said no. Now, if you’ll leave, I’m not finished packing.” She went to shut the door, but Adam slammed his hand against it.

He pushed it open and stepped inside.

She threw her hands in the air and turned away from him.
